Rocket VPN is a relatively unknown VPN. It has a small server network with just over 20 servers across 8 countries and lacks many special additions like split tunneling and a kill switch.

However, Rocket is a good service in other areas. It offers a selection of good protocols and employs military-grade encryption to protect its subscribers' online activity. There are also native applications for Android and iOS users, and customers can enjoy these apps for free with limits.

If you want an app for macOS and Windows, you'll need to set it up yourself, which could be daunting for novices who have never used this type of software before. If you're adept at installing and configuring software yourself, then Rocket is one of the best VPNs on offer.

Rocket VPN Security

30%

As part of this Rocket VPN review, we took a look at the provider's security and privacy offerings. On its home page, Rocket VPN mentions that it encrypts user data to ensure that they enjoy the highest standards of privacy and security on their browser and whilst visiting websites.

Rocket states that it encrypts user data to ensure privacy online and uses AES-256 bit encryption with 2048-bit keys. This is industry-standard, and it is reassuring to see that Rocket VPN meets our reviewing standards in this area.

Rocket VPN lists the connection protocols it offers to users. These include PP2P, L2TP, IKEv2, SSTP, and OpenVPN. It's great that Rocket includes a choice of protocols for VPN connections, and we're pleased to see OpenVPN on the list since this provides the most security over an internet connection.

Rocket also claims to protect users from DNS leaks and states that it keeps no connection logs of user's activity on the platform. However, there is a lack of detailed information about Rocket VPN's logging activities on the provider's privacy policy. While the provider states that it uses 'personal information' to improve its services, Rocket doesn't "transfer, sell, or rent" information or data to third parties.

Moreover, Rocket has a NAT firewall and automatic wi-fi protection so that you're always protected regardless of whether you're connected to a public or private home network. There is even DDoS protection, which is great news for people who game on their devices.

Unfortunately, Rocket VPN has a lack of extra safety features. There is no kill switch feature and no option to route your VPN connection via two servers like NordVPN and Surfshark.

Overall, Rocket VPN's security offerings are decent. However, we would like to see an audit of its privacy policy to verify the no-logging claims. As well as this, it would be great to see a kill switch added to ensure user privacy if the server goes down.

Rocket VPN Features

35%

Extra features are an important aspect of any VPN service. As part of this Rocket VPN review, we examined the additional tools and features users have access to with this product.

Firstly, Rocket offers unlimited bandwidth, which is great news. It also delivers a fairly fast connection speed, promises every internet user a seamless internet experience. We ran some speed tests and were impressed to see that our download internet speed, when connected to a US server, was 34Mbps.

You can use Rocket VPN on 5 devices simultaneously, which is what most other VPNs offer. While there are native Android and iOS operating systems, there are no applications for macOS or Windows systems. You need to manually set these up yourself, using another app to use the VPN.

In terms of a server network, Rocket VPN has a relatively small network. On the Rocket website, there are over 20 VPN server locations across 10 countries. Rocket VPN doesn't disclose its exact number of servers, but it operates in many countries, including the US, the UK, Russia, Australia, Canada, and Japan. This offers many IP addresses to users and gives you a choice of location.

With an array of IP addresses on offer, users can access many geo-restricted websites. We tested Rocket on popular streaming sites, and while we were unable to unblock Netflix in the US and Japan, we had issues getting through to BBC iPlayer in the UK.

Fortunately, we were able to unblock news sites in other parts of the world. This is good news for people living in censored regions who want to read and consume information and content from another location in the world.

Torrenting is supported on Rocket's network, and you can enjoy P2P networking on all of its servers. Since our speed test result demonstrated good download speeds, we imagine that you can enjoy fast downloads with Rocket.

Users can enjoy the VPN for free using the Android or iOS app, although this comes with a data cap. This could limit what you can do online. However, it is great to see that you can try out the provider's services for free before signing up for a paid plan.

Regarding paid subscriptions, there are many options, and the cheapest plan is $2.49, which is extremely cheap. A 30-day refund policy accompanies all of these subscription options, although the refund is not guaranteed. You need to meet certain criteria to claim it successfully.

So while Rocket VPN performs well in some areas, such as speed and ability to unblock US Netflix, it lacks in others. There are few server locations, and some features are not on offer, like split tunneling.

Is Your Data Safe with Rocket VPN?

All VPN reviews need to examine privacy policies in detail, and this Rocket VPN review is no different. We examined the privacy policy page in great detail, but unfortunately, there is no clear assertion that your data is safe with Rocket.

The provider claims it operates a no-logging policy and doesn’t share this data with third parties, but there is a lack of detail, leaving the policy open to interpretation. We’d like to see an audit of the privacy policy to authenticate the claims made.

How Much is Rocket VPN?

There are four price plans with Rocket, and each comes with different features and subscription lengths. Here are the different VPN plans:

The subscription options are great value for money. The monthly plan is a lot less than what many other providers charge, and the yearly plan is extremely cheap. If you’re looking for a cheap product, then Rocket VPN is a great option.

What Payment Methods Does Rocket VPN Accept?

Rocket VPN accepts many different types of payment options. These include:

This is a good range of options, and we like to see the addition of Bitcoin. Using cryptocurrency to purchase a VPN subscription anonymizes your purchase, meaning no one can link your VPN use back to you.

Does Rocket VPN Have a Money-Back Guarantee?

Rocket VPN operates a 30-day money-back guarantee. However, there is a condition to getting a refund, and you are only entitled to one if you cannot connect to all of the provider’s VPN servers. Rocket doesn’t offer a refund if you cannot access streaming sites or experience slow speeds.

Many other providers offer risk-free money-back guarantees for first-time customers, including Surfshark, Private Internet Access, and NordVPN. If you’re unsure about Rocket VPN, then it is best not to sign up for a plan, and there is no guarantee that you’ll successfully get a refund.

Is There a Free VPN Plan?

Yes, there are free VPN apps for Android and iOS users that offer 250MB free data. This free VPN is supported by in-app ads, which is not ideal. However, customers can upgrade to one of the paid plans if they find these annoying.

What Devices Does Rocket VPN Support?

Rocket VPN applications for Android and iOS devices can be downloaded from the Apple Store and Google Play Store, respectively. These apps provide ease of use and have a clear user interface, making it relatively easy for an internet user to use the VPN.

However, there are no native apps for macOS or Windows. To use the VPN service on either device, you’ll need to use a third-party client and manually set it up. Fortunately, Rocket VPN provides many information and guidelines on how to set up the VPN on these operating systems.

Rocket VPN also claims it can be configured to routers but doesn’t say which routers it is compatible with. There is a video tutorial, but we would like to see Rocket list the firmware that it works with since manually connecting a VPN to a router can damage your router beyond repair if you do it wrong.

Where is Rocket VPN Based?

There are some discrepancies about where Rocket is based.

On the Rocket VPN website, the service lists its contact details as Moscow, Russia, which initially led us to believe the provider was based there. While there are privacy laws in Russia protecting user data, Russia is also known for censorship online and government surveillance, making it an interesting country for a VPN company to be based in.

However, some further digging revealed that Liquidum is the company behind the Rocket VPN app. Liquidum is based in Ireland, a country that follows European data privacy laws. With this information available, we’re inclined to think that Rocket follows Irish jurisdiction.

Does Rocket VPN Offer Customer Support?

We took a look at the Rocket website to see what customer service options are on offer. Rocket advertises 24/7/365 technical support, and there is a live chat on the website home page. You can either speak to a member of the customer support team via chat or get in touch via e-mail.

Rocket VPN also advertises a contact phone number that anyone can seemingly use to contact the support team. Most VPN services don’t provide a contact number, so it is quite refreshing to see this information provided.
