SpyOFF VPN Review

As part of our SpyOFF VPN review, we examined the privacy and security features available to customers. Something that we always look for, regardless of the VPN service, is whether or not it offers good encryption.

On its website, SpyOFF VPN claims to offer AES-256 bit SSL encryption, which is the industry standard. It is good to know that users' data will be fully encrypted, making it hard for third parties to view their browsing data in real-time.

As well as 256-bit SSL encryption SpyOFF offers a variety of VPN protocols. Users can adjust their VPN protocol in the app settings and choose from a large selection, including OpenVPN, L2TP, and PPTP. OpenVPN is the best if you're looking for a super-secure connection, but PPTP is good if you want speed.

Another great tool that we feel every VPN should have is a kill switch. If you want guaranteed privacy, if your VPN server connection cuts out, you need a VPN with a kill switch. It is good to see that SpyOFF offers one, which you can switch on and off in the app.

While SpyOFF mentions that it protects against WebRTC leaks on its website, it also provides its customers with other information on how you can defend yourself against IP leaks. This suggests that SpyOFF may not always be fully WebRTC leakproof, but you can check for leaks using the provider's very own leak checker.

We ran a few leak tests of our own to check whether or not the VPN was fully leakproof. Fortunately, we didn't experience a DNS leak or a WebRTC leak which is extremely reassuring for users.

One area regarding user privacy and security that isn't so reassuring is the provider's no-logging policy. On the SpyOFF website, there is limited information regarding the no-logging policy that SpyOFF VPN claims to operate. Although SpyOFF claims that "your data is not tracked... and cannot be read by third parties," there is no privacy policy that can back up these claims.

It is quite shocking for a VPN provider not to offer Terms of Service or a Privacy Policy on its website, and since we were unable to find one, we cannot back up the VPN service's no-logging claims.

However, there is a silver lining that comes with using SpyOFF, and it has to do with data retention laws. SpyOFF VPN is based in San Marino, which operates data protection laws to protect residents; violations of this law can incur damages of up to $10 million.

San Marino is also autonomous, despite being located in Italy, which means that it is not a member of the 5/9/14 Eyes, which is great news for people who want privacy from international governments. You don't need to worry about your data being stored and shared with the government, thanks to SpyOFF's jurisdiction being San Marino.

Finally, it is worth mentioning that you can connect via the Tor network for additional security. Several other VPNs offer this feature, including NordVPN and ProtonVPN, so it is impressive that SpyOFF does too.

So, overall, are the privacy and security features up to scratch? The level of encryption and tunneling protocols are great, but the no-logging policy is worrying. We'd really like to see a detailed privacy policy that sets out exactly what the provider does and doesn't monitor.

With so many amazing VPNs on the market, providers need to offer additional features to make their VPN services worth buying. SpyOFF claims to have many great features on offer, so we took a closer look to see if it delivers what it promises.

Firstly, there is unlimited bandwidth, and SpyOFF claims to offer super-fast speeds. A lack of bandwidth caps is good since it means you can use the VPN for whatever you need. Whether you want to watch TV shows, listen to music, or check your bank account, SpyOFF doesn't impose any limitations.

In terms of a high-speed connection, SpyOFF VPN didn't deliver. While the server speeds we experienced were decent, they aren't anything to brag about. We started off with a super-fast download speed of 40 Mbps. However, when we tested the VPN on a US server, our speed dropped quite a lot to 33 Mbps. While this is still relatively fast, it is a big difference from the original speed.

We then connected to a server location in Germany to compare the speeds and were quite surprised that it dipped again to 29 Mbps. Although this wasn't a slow internet connection, we noticed some longer page load times than usual, which may create a worse user experience.

An area where SpyOFF performs well is its servers list. The VPN offers over 1000 servers spread around 40 countries. This doesn't compare to the mammoth-sized servers of Private Internet Access and HideMyAss! but it is decent.

SpyOFF has good server coverage, and its network operates in every continent. The VPN service even has servers in restricted countries like Russia and Turkey. Whether these servers are virtual or not is not disclosed, but we would hazard a guess that they are not physically located in these places.

Due to the good server coverage, you can access content on streaming sites in other parts of the world. We were able to unblock Netflix in the US and Germany, as well as YouTube in several countries. Unfortunately, we couldn't access BBC iPlayer, but this wasn't too much of a surprise. BBC iPlayer is notorious for its anti-VPN technology and frequently blocks IP addresses linked with VPNs.

One of SpyOFF VPN's best aspects is that it can be used on an unlimited number of devices. Other providers like Surfshark offer unlimited simultaneous connections, and it is something we love to see. SpyOFF is compatible with Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux. There is also a Chrome browser extension, which will only offer encryption for the information in your browser.

The provider doesn't offer split tunneling, which is slightly disappointing. However, SypOFF VPN users can utilize the Chrome browser extension if they want to encrypt only the traffic in their browser and leave all of their other apps to go through their regular network.
