VyprVPN Security

80%

Privacy and security features are first-rate with VyprVPN, and during our research, for this review, we were left very impressed. We have to mention the impressive fact that VyprVPN owns, engineers, and manages its entire server network. There is no third party involvement as no companies host the provider's VPN servers, and VyprVPN writes 100% of its VPN software code. Knowing that VyprVPN completely manages its own network and VPN technology is great from a security viewpoint.

To keep its users secure when using its VPN service, VyprVPN uses advanced security features like AES-256 bit encryption and Perfect Forward Secrecy to change encryption keys at each session. Not only this, but VyprVPN has a NAT firewall to block malware, protecting customers while they surf the web.

Other excellent security features include VyprDNS, which is Vypr's very own DNS service. VyprDNS is zero-knowledge, so it doesn't log your real IP address, location, or the websites you have visited. Moreover, VyprDNS prevents man in the middle DNS attacks, giving you more freedom online and access to censored websites.

Speaking of censorship online, another feature that VyprVPN offers to help combat this is its proprietary Chameleon protocol. Chameleon prevents DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) by scrambling metadata. It helps users to get past VPN firewalls on certain websites and bypass restrictions online, making it the perfect protocol for regions that have heavy censorship.

The Chameleon protocol isn't the only protocol option users have. VyprVPN supports WireGuard on all of its apps, along with OpenVPN and IKEv2. These protocols provide customers with a strong VPN connection, and VyprVPN has removed support for weaker protocols like PPTP.

In terms of logging user browsing activity, VyprVPN has an unambiguous no-logs policy. Unlike many other companies that say that they don't log browsing data and other personal information, VyprVPN has had its policy audited by an independent third-party. The audit revealed that VyprVPN doesn't store logs and is therefore trustworthy when it comes to its handling of user data.

VyprVPN's impressive privacy and security features don't stop there. VyprVPN has a kill switch that will cut off your internet connection should your VPN server go down. Although we had some kill switch issues on Windows, we found that it worked fine on Android. Unfortunately, the kill switch is not currently available on iOS apps.

There is also public wi-fi protection that automatically protects you when you connect to the internet on an unknown wi-fi network, protecting you from hackers that may be lurking on the same network. We ran a few DNS and IP leak tests and found the VyprVPN was leakproof, making it the perfect option for users who want to mask their IP addresses.

So, despite VyprVPN being an unpretentious VPN, it offers superb privacy and security features that we can't fault. If you want a super-secure VPN connection, consider VyprVPN, since it rivals even some VPN titans like NordVPN and ExpressVPN.

VyprVPN Features

75%

Although VyprVPN doesn't offer an exceedingly long list of extra VPN features that its customers can enjoy, the VPN services it offers make for a good overall user experience. Firstly, it has censorship unblocking features like its Chameleon protocol, enabling customers to bypass VPN firewalls. This means that users can enjoy censored content from around the world and access foreign streaming service libraries, including Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max.

Not only is VyprVPN a great option if you want to access the different catalogs offered by streaming services, but it supports P2P networking, which makes it a great choice for torrenting. Combined with the fantastic privacy and security, you'll be protected when accessing torrent platforms. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and other third parties won't ever be able to see what you're downloading.

There are several features that subscribers can activate in the app settings, depending on the device they are using. VyprVPN has apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android and can be used on other devices.

In the easy-to-use apps, the public wi-fi protection feature can be switched on and off in the settings for all compatible devices. The auto-reconnect option reconnects you to a server if your VPN connection drops. Both of these settings are super useful, ensuring that you never surf the web using insecure internet connections.

There are a couple of other interesting additions to the apps that customers can take advantage of. One is the option to connect to the fastest server on the app when choosing a server, removing the difficulty of having to decide which location you wish to connect to.

Another great thing about VyprVPN is that it has server clusters, with many servers in one location. Instead of choosing a particular server, users can select a location, and VyprVPN will automatically connect them to the best server in that cluster.

The server clusters also enable easy server switching. If one server in the location goes down, VyprVPN can automatically switch you over to another in the same cluster without having to change your location, which could affect your connection speed, amongst other things. By being able to choose a location and not a server, the process of using the VPN is made a lot easier.

On the Windows client, customers can configure the VPN to get automatic protection when the application launches. This is great for busy users or forgetful individuals who may not remember to activate their VPN protection.

There are a couple of fantastic extras on the Android app too. URL filtering allows customers to flag certain sites as malicious and protects their devices from malware. There is also the Connection Per App feature on the Android app, VyprVPN's answer to split tunneling. Subscribers can decide which apps and websites they want to access outside of VPN protection. We like this feature, so it is disappointing that it is not available on any other operating systems yet.

Finally, if you need any platform support or help with technical issues, then you can enjoy the 24/7 customer service from VyprVPN. With a live chat and a very extensive help center with thorough guides on almost everything, customers can get issues solved easily.

Is VyprVPN Really No-Logs?

It’s crucial to ensure that your VPN service has a strict zero-logging policy to guarantee that your internet traffic remains private to you and you alone. A lot of VPN providers claim to be zero-logs but don’t have evidence to back this up. Fortunately, VyprVPN is not one of those providers, and we feel that it is one of the best VPN providers when it comes to having a clear no-logging policy.

Since Golden Frog GmbH owns VyprVPN, we checked out their privacy policy that relates to VyprVPN and found it to be clear and concise, stating: “VyprVPN is a zero log VPN Service. We do not record or retain any data when you use the VyprVPN Service.”

Unlike some other big VPN companies, VyprVPN doesn’t log any data relating to your browsing session. The provider won’t log your real IP address, connection and disconnection times, or user traffic. Most providers record some information such as connection times or devices used, so it’s great to see that VyprVPN doesn’t.

So, what does VyprVPN store, if anything? Again, from reading the Golden Frog privacy policy, we discovered that VyprVPN does collect some information on customers when they create an account. This includes personal details such as your name, email address, phone number, and billing information. The company only keeps this information while you have an active VyprVPN account and is stored on computers based in Switzerland.

The provider also uses a third-party service for payment processing, which means that it doesn’t keep a record of customers’ credit card numbers on file.

Moreover, VyprVPN won’t ever sell or share your information with third parties. The Golden Frog’s privacy policy states that it will only ever disclose customers’ personal information when responding to a court order. Since the provider doesn’t log user data onto its servers, even if it were subpoenaed, the provider wouldn’t have anything to hand over.

You might be wondering, how exactly can we trust that VyprVPN is legit and really doesn’t store or misuse customer’s data? The provider was independently audited by a third party, Levithan, in 2018. This audit report proved the transparency of the provider’s privacy policy. However, we haven’t seen an independent report since then, so it would be great if VyprVPN could ensure these audits were carried out annually.

Is VyprVPN Free?

We all love free products, but it’s best to avoid them when it comes to free VPNs. Running VPN servers and offering first-rate VPN technology to customers is costly, so the best companies offer paid services.

VyprVPN is one company that doesn’t have a free plan. Sometimes, the provider has a free trial on offer, but these are not constantly available. If you’re searching for a reliable VPN service, we suggest taking a look at ProtonVPN or TunnelBear.

How Much Does VyprVPN Cost?

Since VyprVPN doesn’t offer its VPN services for free, you’ll have to pay to enjoy one of its plans. Fortunately, VyprVPN has a couple of subscription plans, with the 12-month plan being excellent value for money.

Does VyprVPN Have a 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee?

Yes, VyprVPN has a 30-day money-back guarantee, which is the industry standard. Some rival VPN providers have started offering a 45-day money-back guarantee, like Hotspot Shield and CyberGhost, to give people more time to try out the products.

The 30-day money-back guarantee is completely risk-free, and you’ll get a full refund if you cancel your subscription before the end of the allotted time. There are no strings attached to the refund policy.

What Payment Methods Does VyprVPN Accept?

If you want to try out VyprVPN’s VPN solution, then you can purchase one of the plans online and pay either by credit card, via PayPal, or UnionPay. As of now, VyprVPN doesn’t accept payments in Bitcoin.

What Devices Can I Use VyprVPN on?

With each VyprVPN plan, you get 5 simultaneous connections, which is the industry standard. Although many companies have started to offer more simultaneous connections as people acquire more devices, VyprVPN only provides 5.

Luckily, there are ways around this device connection limit and many different operating systems that you can use VyprVPN on. VyprVPN has dedicated apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. You can also use VyprVPN on your Smart TV.

If you want to protect more than 5 devices at any given time, you can configure VyprVPN to your router. Assuming your router has the correct firmware, you can follow one of the many router setup guides on the VyprVPN. VyprVPN has tutorials on connecting the VPN to routers with Tomato firmware. Once you have set up the VPN connection on your router, you can automatically protect all the devices on your network at once.

Is VyprVPN Fast?

VyprVPN provides customers with what it calls “unlimited speed and unlimited bandwidth”. We wanted to put these claims to the test and see if VyprVPN is really as fast as it claims to be.

We tested the speed on our regular internet connection without a VPN. We started with a relatively fast download speed of 24Mbps, and our ping test showed it was 20Ms. Internet connections in the United States were relatively fast, with our speeds not changing much when connected to servers in New York.

We then connected to different server locations around the world, first trying out the Netherlands. Our download speed decreased a lot, to 18.2Mbps, and our ping test showed an increase to 26Mbps. However, this was still a relatively fast internet connection.

After this, we then connected to a server location in the UK and has slightly faster speeds than in the Netherlands. We tested servers in Asia and noticed more severe drops, but we put this down to the fact that there were probably fewer servers in the cluster locations that we were selecting.

All in all, we didn’t experience the fastest internet connections with VyprVPN, but we also didn’t experience incredibly slow speeds either. A factor that may be preventing the VPN from rivaling the fast speeds of NordVPN and ExpressVPN is that VyprVPN has fewer server locations across the globe.

Is VyprVPN Easy to Use?

VyprVPN provides its customers with extremely easy to use and user-friendly VPN apps. Once you’ve installed the client or app on your device of choice, you need to enter your username and password and log in.

If you prefer not to use the VyprVPN apps, you can manually set up connections on your devices. There OpenVPN configuration files and APK files available on the Vypr website.

Upon opening the apps, you’ll be met with a connection status that tells you whether you have a VPN connection or not. To connect, all you need to do is tap a button, and you’ll get connected to a server from the location shown on the screen.

Depending on where in the world you want to connect to, you can choose from a list of servers. You can organize the list by country, location, or even by ping time and continent. Select the location you want, and then VyprVPN will do the hard work and connect you to a server in that cluster.

The apps make it easy for users to navigate the settings and make the most out of features like the kill switch. To switch on public wi-fi protection, all you need to do is tap a switch that will toggle the feature on.

VyprVPN has created some of the most user-friendly apps we have seen when it comes to VPN technology, making it easier than ever for subscribers to enjoy the services.

Does VyprVPN Work with Netflix?

Most of us use streaming services, and with a VPN, you can access more streaming libraries than ever before. The majority of us use VPNs to access restricted content on the web or on certain networks where it might be blocked. For example, your work or school internet network may have blocked Instagram and Twitter.

Not only does VyprVPN helps to access censored content on the internet, but it can provide access to streaming services too. Thanks to its servers located around the world, customers have access to a wide range of IP addresses and can virtually change their location.

We tested VyprVPN on several streaming services and found that it could access different libraries from across the world. We unblocked Netflix in the US, Germany, and the UK and got past Hulu, HBO Max, and Disney+’s firewalls.

Unfortunately, VyprVPN wasn’t able to access all streaming services. We tried to get through to BBC iPlayer in the UK but failed. This may be because there is only one server location in the UK, which could mean that any IP address linked to that location is blocked.

However, overall we were pleased with the amount of content that we were able to access. The apps were incredibly easy to use, and we enjoyed a stable yet fast internet connection when connected to most servers, which ensured our streaming was buffer-free.

Does VyprVPN Work for Torrenting?

Although VyprVPN doesn’t advertise that it supports P2P traffic on its servers, it is a great VPN for torrenting. Not only does it allow the access of platforms like BitTorrent on its servers, but it provides subscribers with a fast internet connection, which is fantastic if you are downloading a lot of content. There are no data limits on its network, which means you can download as much as you want.

Aside from this, VyprVPN offers a lot of security features, which are essentially for torrenters. The advanced encryption hides your torrenting traffic from your ISP and any other third parties, ensuring that it stays completely private. The kill switch also guarantees that your internet connection with cut out if the VPN goes down.

Does VyprVPN Have Good Customer Support?

If you run into issues using VyprVPN, rest assured that you can rely on the customer support offered by VyprVPN. Firstly, there is a 24/7 live chat on the website, where you can speak to a customer agent about issues you may be having.

There is also an extremely informative help center with content ranging from setup guides to troubleshooting issues with connections. You can also visit a service status page on the website for information about any technical issues you may experience on the VPN.

Finally, you can submit a ticket request to receive an emailed response from a customer service representative.

Does VyprVPN Have a Business VPN?

If you’re looking for a business VPN, then look no further! VyprVPN offers its services for business use as well as personal. It has two different business VPN plans and employs cloud-based technology to help people secure their work networks. If you want to give your employees remote access to your local network from around the globe, then this business VPN may be a great option for you.

The price of the plans range depending on how many employees you sign up. Fortunately, the plans can be scaled up or down depending on whether your business grows or not.

Where is VyprVPN Based?

Golden Frog GmbH, a Swiss-based company, owns VyprVPN, and the headquarters are based in Switzerland. Although VyprVPN was created in the United States, it was acquired by Golden Frog several years ago.

The news that VyprVPN is based in Switzerland is great for subscribers since it is considered one of the most privacy-friendly in the world, with no strict data retention laws and more privacy from your ISP. However, Switzerland is a member of the 5/9/14 Eyes agreement, which means that your internet data may not be as private as you think.

Fortunately, since VyprVPN doesn’t log its customers’ internet traffic, customer data should stay out of the hands of Five Eyes members.

Is VyprVPN any Good?

So, is VyprVPN any good? If you want to access content from around the globe, including restricted social media sites and streaming services, then VyprVPN is a great choice. Not only does it unblock content worldwide, but it provides users with secure internet connections, its very own Chameleon protocol, and a zero-knowledge DNS service.

We recommend trying out VyprVPN and seeing for yourself what it is is like. If you’re not impressed, then you can cancel your subscription without any issues, thanks to the 30-day money-back guarantee.
