VyprVPN Security
Privacy and security features are first-rate with VyprVPN, and during our research, for this review, we were left very impressed. We have to mention the impressive fact that VyprVPN owns, engineers, and manages its entire server network. There is no third party involvement as no companies host the provider's VPN servers, and VyprVPN writes 100% of its VPN software code. Knowing that VyprVPN completely manages its own network and VPN technology is great from a security viewpoint.
To keep its users secure when using its VPN service, VyprVPN uses advanced security features like AES-256 bit encryption and Perfect Forward Secrecy to change encryption keys at each session. Not only this, but VyprVPN has a NAT firewall to block malware, protecting customers while they surf the web.
Other excellent security features include VyprDNS, which is Vypr's very own DNS service. VyprDNS is zero-knowledge, so it doesn't log your real IP address, location, or the websites you have visited. Moreover, VyprDNS prevents man in the middle DNS attacks, giving you more freedom online and access to censored websites.
Speaking of censorship online, another feature that VyprVPN offers to help combat this is its proprietary Chameleon protocol. Chameleon prevents DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) by scrambling metadata. It helps users to get past VPN firewalls on certain websites and bypass restrictions online, making it the perfect protocol for regions that have heavy censorship.
The Chameleon protocol isn't the only protocol option users have. VyprVPN supports WireGuard on all of its apps, along with OpenVPN and IKEv2. These protocols provide customers with a strong VPN connection, and VyprVPN has removed support for weaker protocols like PPTP.
In terms of logging user browsing activity, VyprVPN has an unambiguous no-logs policy. Unlike many other companies that say that they don't log browsing data and other personal information, VyprVPN has had its policy audited by an independent third-party. The audit revealed that VyprVPN doesn't store logs and is therefore trustworthy when it comes to its handling of user data.
VyprVPN's impressive privacy and security features don't stop there. VyprVPN has a kill switch that will cut off your internet connection should your VPN server go down. Although we had some kill switch issues on Windows, we found that it worked fine on Android. Unfortunately, the kill switch is not currently available on iOS apps.
There is also public wi-fi protection that automatically protects you when you connect to the internet on an unknown wi-fi network, protecting you from hackers that may be lurking on the same network. We ran a few DNS and IP leak tests and found the VyprVPN was leakproof, making it the perfect option for users who want to mask their IP addresses.
So, despite VyprVPN being an unpretentious VPN, it offers superb privacy and security features that we can't fault. If you want a super-secure VPN connection, consider VyprVPN, since it rivals even some VPN titans like NordVPN and ExpressVPN.
VyprVPN Features
Although VyprVPN doesn't offer an exceedingly long list of extra VPN features that its customers can enjoy, the VPN services it offers make for a good overall user experience. Firstly, it has censorship unblocking features like its Chameleon protocol, enabling customers to bypass VPN firewalls. This means that users can enjoy censored content from around the world and access foreign streaming service libraries, including Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max.
Not only is VyprVPN a great option if you want to access the different catalogs offered by streaming services, but it supports P2P networking, which makes it a great choice for torrenting. Combined with the fantastic privacy and security, you'll be protected when accessing torrent platforms. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and other third parties won't ever be able to see what you're downloading.
There are several features that subscribers can activate in the app settings, depending on the device they are using. VyprVPN has apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android and can be used on other devices.
In the easy-to-use apps, the public wi-fi protection feature can be switched on and off in the settings for all compatible devices. The auto-reconnect option reconnects you to a server if your VPN connection drops. Both of these settings are super useful, ensuring that you never surf the web using insecure internet connections.
There are a couple of other interesting additions to the apps that customers can take advantage of. One is the option to connect to the fastest server on the app when choosing a server, removing the difficulty of having to decide which location you wish to connect to.
Another great thing about VyprVPN is that it has server clusters, with many servers in one location. Instead of choosing a particular server, users can select a location, and VyprVPN will automatically connect them to the best server in that cluster.
The server clusters also enable easy server switching. If one server in the location goes down, VyprVPN can automatically switch you over to another in the same cluster without having to change your location, which could affect your connection speed, amongst other things. By being able to choose a location and not a server, the process of using the VPN is made a lot easier.
On the Windows client, customers can configure the VPN to get automatic protection when the application launches. This is great for busy users or forgetful individuals who may not remember to activate their VPN protection.
There are a couple of fantastic extras on the Android app too. URL filtering allows customers to flag certain sites as malicious and protects their devices from malware. There is also the Connection Per App feature on the Android app, VyprVPN's answer to split tunneling. Subscribers can decide which apps and websites they want to access outside of VPN protection. We like this feature, so it is disappointing that it is not available on any other operating systems yet.
Finally, if you need any platform support or help with technical issues, then you can enjoy the 24/7 customer service from VyprVPN. With a live chat and a very extensive help center with thorough guides on almost everything, customers can get issues solved easily.
