Flow VPN is an unmetered VPN that claims to allow users an excellent VPN experience. However, the provider falls short of its promises, with a worrying privacy policy and a lack of extra features.

With Flow, your privacy may be at risk since the provider logs browsing activity and sensitive details like email addresses and real IPs. From the point of view of our cybersecurity experts, this is not good, especially since most good VPNs operate no-logging policies.

Furthermore, Flow isn't a great VPN for activities such as torrenting and streaming. While there are servers across 60 countries, you won't be able to access restricted content on some of the most popular websites in the world like Netflix.

While Flow isn't one of the best services we've seen, it does offer cheap subscription plans, which is one of its redeeming qualities. If you're interested in this VPN, read our full review to find out more.

Flow VPN employs bank-grade AES-128 bit encryption, which will give you privacy from third parties while using the service. However, the majority of VPNs employ military-grade encryption.

Depending on which devices you use the VPN on, you'll get a different choice of protocols. Flow supports OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP/IPSec, and IKEv2. When you configure the VPN to your device, you'll have a choice of which protocol you can use to set up the connection.

If you're a Mac user and find that the other protocols are blocked, you can also use OpenVPN over SSH. Using this protocol also reroutes your traffic via the SSH protocol for a more secure connection. Flow also employs a NAT firewall to block unsafe incoming traffic.

Unfortunately, Flow does not offer a kill switch, which is disappointing. Any VPN service worth its salt has a kill switch in place to cut off internet access if you disconnect from the VPN. The fact that Flow doesn't include this integral tool in its service isn't a good sign.

It's bad news when it comes to whether or not Flow logs user data. The provider does indeed store identifiable information such as your IP address and your usage of the VPN service and monitors what you get up to online. This is not good, especially if you want a VPN for increased privacy.

Finally, Flow is based in the United Kingdom, a country known for its strict data retention laws and being a member of the Five Eyes. Due to its jurisdiction, the company must comply with UK laws, and since it logs user activity and information, it is more than likely that this is shared with third parties.

Overall, we wouldn't recommend Flow based on the privacy and security options it provides. It has one of the weakest privacy policies we have seen, and the fact that it doesn't offer many extra security features isn't great.

Flow VPN Features

One of Flow's major selling points is that it is an unmetered VPN. This means you'll face no bandwidth limits on any of your devices and can use the VPN for all the data-heavy activities you wish.

However, unlimited bandwidth is not useful since Flow doesn't support activities such as torrenting or streaming. During tests for this review, our experts could not get past VPN blocks on popular streaming sites like Netflix.

Moreover, Flow states that it doesn't support P2P networking since torrent platforms are not used for legitimate reasons. This is a fair enough claim, although it may result in the company alienating many potential customers who want a VPN to access torrenting platforms safely.

There is also a lack of extra features like split tunneling. However, you can use either the Chrome or Firefox browser extensions if you wish only to encrypt your browser activity and not all apps on your device.

As well as offering browser extensions, you can use Flow on other popular devices, including Android, Mac, iOS, and Windows. There is no support for popular systems like Amazon Firestick and Apple TV, both of which are facing increasing demand from users.

Flow VPN's apps are very basic, and subscribers need to manually configure the software to their device, which could be difficult for those unfamiliar with VPNs.

In terms of servers, Flow has 100 servers across 60 countries. The provider is constantly increasing its network size and has added 10 more locations in recent years, increasing its coverage from 50 countries. Although the network size is tiny, Flow owns and operates it entirely, with no third-party interference.

How Many Servers Does Flow VPN Have?

Flow VPN has a relatively small server network of a little over 100 servers in more than 60 countries worldwide, an increase from 50 countries. There are server locations in countries such as the US, the UK, Chile, Hong Kong, Germany, Spain, and South Africa.

There is less diversity amongst Flow VPN’s network than, say, a provider like HideMyAss!. However, Flow VPN owns and manages its entire server network, meaning that no servers are rented from third parties. This is great news regarding security, and Flow VPN adds that it is constantly increasing its VPN server network size to meet user demand.

Does Flow VPN Keep Logs?

A major reason why people use Virtual Private Network software is to keep their browsing data safe and private. Unfortunately, Flow VPN does not operate a no-logs policy. The provider’s website states that it collects some identifiable data, including your IP address, session data, allocated IP, and connection times and dates.

The logging of your IP address is particularly concerning since it can give away your identity when linked to your network usage and browsing activity.

In our opinion, this is way too much information for a VPN provider to collect, and we’re not pleased to see that Flow VPN stores session data. If you want a VPN you can trust not to monitor your internet activity, try out Private Internet Access or NordVPN.

How Much Does Flow VPN Cost?

Flow VPN has three subscription plans on offer.

The monthly and yearly subscription plans are great value for money and are cheaper than many other VPN services. You can purchase the VPN using PayPal, popular credit cards, or with PaymentWall.

Does Flow VPN Have a Free Trial?

If you sign up with PayPal or Stripe, you will be entitled to a five-day free trial, increasing from a previous free three-day trial. VPN trial subscriptions are few and far between, so this works in Flow VPN’s favor.

Unfortunately, there is no money-back guarantee, and Flow VPN explains the reasoning behind this on its Terms and Conditions, stating that since there is a free trial, no refund policy is available.

Where is Flow VPN Based?

Flow VPN is based in the United Kingdom. While the UK has data privacy laws in place, ISPs and government agencies collect a lot of personal data on residents.

Furthermore, the UK is a member of the Five Eyes and shares citizen data with countries around the world. If choosing a provider based in a Five Eyes country, make sure that it operates a decent no-logging policy.

Can Flow VPN Unblock Netflix?

If you’re looking for a VPN to unblock Netflix and other popular streaming sites, then look elsewhere. Unfortunately, Flow cannot unblock Netflix at the moment. If a VPN cannot unblock US Netflix, then it doesn’t meet our high reviewing standards.

What Devices Does Flow VPN Support?

You can use Flow VPN on 4 devices simultaneously, and the provider supports Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. There are also browser extensions for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

It’s important to note that the setup process with Flow is not as seamlessly easy as with other VPNs. For iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac, and Android, you need to download configuration files and manually create a VPN connection. This may be difficult for VPN novices who aren’t familiar with this type of software.

What Customer Support Does Flow VPN Offer?

Flow claims to offer 24/7 customer care, so we checked out what its support team has on offer. There is a helpful support section on the Flow website, with a knowledge base with information on how to set up the Flow apps on different devices.

There is also a dedicated support area for customers. Flow also provides a ticketed email system in which users can send a support request but lacks a live chat feature. Overall the customer service is decent, but we’d like to see a live chat service added.
