SlickVPN is a US-based service that claims to offer complete anonymity online at all times. Although SlickVPN utilizes advanced encryption standards and excellent protocols, its no-logging policy has not been independently audited to verify the security of its service.

Slick promises users that they can bypass all geo-restrictions on popular streaming sites worldwide. However, during our testing, we discovered that the VPN could only unblock US Netflix, which may prove disappointing for fans of foreign content.

The server network is small, although the provider does manage to operate server locations in every continent. However, most of the servers are based in the US and the UK, which ostracizes many internet users living in other parts of the world.

Overall, SlickVPN is a good service but definitely not the best out there. Read our full SlickVPN review to find out more about this VPN.

SlickVPN Security

50%

Privacy and security features are the most important aspect of a VPN service. Fortunately, SlickVPN employs advanced encryption standards with excellent tunneling protocols. Users can choose from IPSec, which provides AES-128 bit encryption, or OpenVPN, which offers AES-256 bit encryption. SlickVPN used to support PPTP but doesn't anymore due to the security issues it has.

Another great feature that provides users with more protection online is HYDRA. HYDRA is SlickVPN's very-own feature that employs additional hops over the internal network to add extra layers of privacy online to effectively hide your VPN traffic.

Slick also has a kill switch, which will protect you from any leaks if your VPN connection goes down. A kill switch is one of the most important features for a VPN provider to offer, as it protects your privacy at all times. So, it is extremely reassuring that Slick offers one.

SlickVPN is based in the US, which is a slight privacy concern. Being based in this jurisdiction means that Slick would have to hand over any data from its servers if requested to.

However, if SlickVPN doesn't store any data on its servers, then the jurisdiction shouldn't be too much of an issue. On its website, the provider states that it has a strict no-logging policy. We took a closer look at its privacy policy to make sure this was the case.

Slick states that it does collect some essential information for account setup. This information includes your email address, payment information, and temporary cookies to manage member login. However, it states that it doesn't log any data when users are utilizing its VPN services.

It's important to keep in mind that SlickVPN says it will share any account data if legally obliged to do so. This may be offputting for some customers who don't want any of their data shared with third parties.

Fortunately, you will be alerted if the company is subpoenaed to share data with the authorities, thanks to its warrant canary. This is a good feature as it ensures that there is total clarity between the provider and customers.

Overall, Slick's privacy and security features are decent, especially Hydra and the level of encryption. We'd like to see the privacy policy audited to verify that no connection or activity logs are kept, but other than that, the provider performs well in this area.

SlickVPN Features

45%

SlickVPN offers an extremely small server network standing at just 150 servers spread over 40 countries. This is quite small, although Slick does manage to offer servers in every single continent, which is impressive. It even has servers in restricted countries like Turkey and Russia and various countries in North America and Europe.

With SlickVPN, you get access to over 250 dynamic IP addresses. The IPs are dynamic, so you will get a new IP address every time you connect to the service. However, these IPs will be shared with many other Slick subscribers, meaning you can hide in a sea of users.

Each SlickVPN plan comes with 5 simultaneous connections, and the VPN has an app for devices including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS. You can even connect it to your router to bypass the device limit and protect all systems connected to your network.

SlickVPN even allows users to manually configure the VPN to their devices using OpenVPN and offers a range of setup guides on its website. If you're tech-savvy, then this may be a good way to install the VPN.

With Slick, you can unblock US Netflix, but that's about it. Unfortunately, the VPN is unsuccessful at bypassing VPN blocks on other popular streaming services, including BBC iPlayer and Hulu. Fortunately, SlickVPN offers unlimited support for all torrenting platforms along with unlimited bandwidth ensuring that you can download as much as you want.

Speeds are fairly good with SlickVPN and are fast enough to torrent and stream. All ports are open on Slick's network, meaning that you can enjoy fast downloads and streams at all times.

Customer support is basic, and dare we say it, lacking in some areas. While there is a contact form on the website that acts like a ticketed emailing system, responses are slow even though Slick claims to offer round-the-clock support. There is also no live chat on the site, and the help section is quite brief.

Another great feature that SlickVPN lacks is split tunneling. Split tunneling allows you to send some traffic outside of the VPN tunnel, which can help with speed. It would be great if Slick added this to their list of features, as many users would find it useful.

Is SlickVPN Legit?

SlickVPN is a legitimate company registered in Weston, Florida, in the US. You can find information about the company online, which reassures users of its legitimacy.

Of course, since the VPN provider is based in the US, this raises a few privacy concerns. The US government is well known for internet surveillance and keeping an eye on its residents’ online movements.

Moreover, the US is a founding member of the Five Eyes, an international alliance between several states where citizen data is shared. Since SlickVPN is based in the US, it needs to follow the laws of this jurisdiction; this means that if subpoenaed to hand over information on its users to the US government, by law, it would have to.

How Much is Slick VPN?

SlickVPN is by no means the cheapest VPN service on the market. However, it offers three different subscription plans, with the price dropping if you sign up for a longer length of time. Here’s an overview of the current price plans:

You can pay in either USD, GBP, or EUR, depending on your location.

What Payment Methods Does SlickVPN Accept?

SlickVPN accepts a range of payment methods. You can pay using an American Express, Mastercard, or Visa debit, or credit card. Alternatively, customers can purchase a subscription with PayPal or using Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a great option since the payment won’t be linked back to you easily.

If you also sign up using a burner email address and pay with Bitcoin, you can have totally anonymity regarding your VPN purchase.

Does SlickVPN Have a Money-Back Guarantee?

Yes, SlickVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, which is the norm for VPN providers. Slick claims this is a no-hassle refund policy, so long as you request a refund within 30 days from the date of payment.

Where are SlickVPN’s Server Locations?

SlickVPN has a small server network with more than 150 VPN servers worldwide in 40 countries and 142 cities. It has many servers in Europe and North America, with most servers being based in the UK and the US. This is good news for internet users who want to access streaming content or news websites only available in these countries.

As well as having excellent server coverage in the UK and the US, SlickVPN has many servers in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Canada. Slick also operates servers in Russia, which is great news for residents living in the Russian Federation.

SlickVPN also operates in Asia, with servers in India, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan. There are also a few server locations in South America. Unfortunately, Slick only offers servers in one African country, South Africa, limiting the use of the VPN service on the African continent. It also only provides servers in Australia regarding Oceania, meaning users cannot use a New Zealand IP address.

Overall, the variety of server locations is rather good, especially considering that SlickVPN operates a small network.

Does SlickVPN Hide Your IP Address?

SlickVPN can hide your real IP address. To change your actual IP address, you can connect to one of the provider’s servers and browse the web under a completely different IP that masks your real location and identity.

Slick provides more than 250 dynamic IP addresses, which is good but not great. For example, IPVanish provides more than 300,000 shared IPs, giving users a lot more choice. The higher the number of IPs, the more likely it is that you will be able to unblock geo-restricted sites like Netflix.

More IP address options also mean you are less likely to suffer from the bad neighbor effect, which is when another VPN user misbehaves whilst browsing the web with the IP address and gets it blocked from certain sites. It would be great to see Slick increase its IP address and server count to prevent this problem from occurring.

Does SlickVPN Have a Kill Switch?

Yes, SlickVPN has a kill switch on its client that you can activate. In actual fact, the kill switch is the IP and DNS leak protection tool. None of your details should be leaked by having this feature switched on, such as your DNS requests or information related to your IP, even if your VPN connection cuts out.

Our VPN server went down when using the Windows client, and the kill switch sprang into action. This is great news since it ensures that third parties such as websites and your Internet Service Provider won’t see your internet traffic if your VPN connections cut out.

What Devices Does SlickVPN Support?

SlickVPN offers support for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and Linux systems and permits 5 simultaneous connections at any time, which is standard for the VPN industry. You can also connect the VPN to your router (assuming it has compatible firmware like Asus).

You can either use the VPN through the PC client or smartphone app. It’s important to note that the client and app for smartphone devices are slightly different, but both are relatively user-friendly.

The SlickVPN PC client opens up and immediately lets users’ know whether they are protected or not with a separate location tab enabling users to choose where they want to connect based either on city or country.

The client also enables you to configure settings, such as whether you want an automatic connection upon starting up your device. You can also change your port, protocol and activate IP and DNS leak protection.

Overall, the app and client are easy enough to use but perhaps not as advanced as other providers’ offerings like ProtonVPN’s high-tech desktop client.

Can You Use SlickVPN to Unblock Streaming Sites?

As part of this SlickVPN review, we wanted to test its ability to unblock the most popular streaming services. SlickVPN surprised us and could unblock Netflix in the US, which is a good indication of a VPN’s power at bypassing firewalls.

We were also able to access YouTube in the UK, the US, and Germany and enjoyed Disney+ content in the US too. Unfortunately, despite the vast number of UK-based servers, SlickVPN couldn’t unblock BBC iPlayer, a great shame for anglophiles who want to watch British TV shows and films.

Moreover, SlickVPN didn’t work when we tried to access Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, or Hulu. This is a little bit disappointing, but we were pleased to see that people living outside of the US would be able to watch US Netflix content as this is one of the most sought-after features of a VPN service.

Does SlickVPN Support Torrenting?

One of SlickVPN’s redeeming factors is its unlimited support for P2P traffic. As a SlickVPN user, you’ll be able to torrent on popular P2P networking platforms, using a dynamic IP shared with many other users.

Your identity and real IP will be safe when accessing torrent platforms with Slick, not only thanks to the dynamic IPs but also due to AES-256 bit encryption and secure tunneling protocols. You don’t have to worry about any of your torrenting traffic being revealed to your ISP or other parties when using SlickVPN.

Moreover, all ports are open with SlickVPN, making it easy to port forward. This is great if you’re looking for faster download speeds when torrenting.

Is SlickVPN Fast?

SlickVPN promises blazing fast speeds, something that most VPN services fail to do. Giving you more privacy with encryption and secure protocols can slow down your internet speed. So, how does SlickVPN fare when it comes to connection speeds? We ran a few speed tests to find out.

We connected to a US server and were extremely impressed with a download speed of 35Mbps (given that our speed without a VPN connection was 38Mbps.) This was fast enough to stream, torrent, and not experience any delays or interruptions to our online activities.

However, our server speeds decreased quite a lot when we connected to servers further away. In the UK, our download speed fell to 27Mbps, and to 25Mbps in Germany. This isn’t unusual and is anything but slow, but it is quite different from our original speed.

Connecting to a server in Australia also produced a rather slow download speed of 23Mbps, resulting in a few slow page loads. Of course, server speed is affected by your distance to the server location, whether many other users are on the same server simultaneously.

What Customer Support Does SlickVPN Offer?

SlickVPN claims to provide 25/7 technical support and offers many resources on its website, such as setup guides for various platforms. You can also access the help and support section and troubleshoot common issues that may occur when using the VPN service. However, this area is quite brief, and there are only 6 issues that Slick offers solutions for.

Fortunately, there is an FAQ section that is a lot more helpful than the regular support section. Here you can find answers to many commonly asked questions. Slick covers many different queries, which may be appropriate for general VPN users.

There isn’t a live chat available on the website, nor is there a telephone number. You can get in touch with the customer support team via a contact form on the website and leave your email address. You’ll then receive a response from the company with an appropriate answer or solution to your query or problem.
