StrongVPN Security

80%

If you want first-rate security and privacy features from your VPN service, StrongVPN is a valid option. Firstly, the provider uses AES-256 encryption in order to ensure that you have a super-secure VPN connection. Whether you're on a home or using public wi-fi, the military-grade encryption will guarantee that your browsing data remains private.

Besides advanced encryption, users have multiple VPN protocol options, including L2TP, SSTP, OpenVPN, IPSec, IKEv2, and WireGuard. You can choose which protocol you want to run the VPN connection over; for example, you can choose OpenVPN over TCP or UDP and select a port.

As well as the above, there is a kill switch available for desktop Windows and macOS clients. There is also a scramble VPN feature to help users bypass VPN firewalls, and we experienced no DNS, IP, or WebRTC leaks during our leak tests.

When it comes to the use of data, StrongVPN has a zero-logging privacy policy. Although its privacy policy is a long read, it reassures users that it does not track internet traffic or store browsing data. This is good to know since StrongVPN is based in the United States, a country that isn't known for having the best data privacy laws.

Since the US is a member of the Five Eyes, a security alliance that shares citizen data with other countries, it would be reasonable for StrongVPN customers to worry about their privacy. However, StrongVPN's zero-logs policy means that if the provider were ordered to hand over data from its servers to government agencies, it wouldn't have anything to show that would link individuals to any activity on the VPN.

Even though StrongVPN doesn't log user activity, it does store some essential information when you set up an account. Information logged includes your email address, billing address, full name, and payment information.

Although details such as your billing address and email address give the provider a clear idea of who you are, this information is stored simply so that users can enjoy the VPN services. None of this personal information is sold to third parties.

While the no-logging policy checks out, StrongVPN has not undergone any independent audits by third-party companies, nor has it released a transparency report. Many of StrongVPN's competitors have started to do this to assure customers that their data is safe.

Overall, security and privacy are good with StrongVPN. The choice of protocols is an excellent feature and allows users to make their connection more secure or faster, and the zero-logs policy is extremely reassuring for privacy-conscious subscribers.

StrongVPN Features

80%

The best VPN services don't just offer advanced security and privacy protection but also provide users with an abundance of extra features. StrongVPN doesn't disappoint in this area and offers many features to make the VPN experience easier and better for users.

With each StrongVPN subscription, you get 12 simultaneous connections, which means you can protect all of your devices at one time. StrongVPN has apps for many popular operating systems, meaning that you can protect all your desktop and mobile devices. The apps are easy to use, and there are good setup guides for each one.

The apps contain a lot of great features. For example, the Best Available Location feature allows StrongVPN to connect you to the best VPN server. This removes the difficulty of users having to decide which server they want to connect to.

In the settings, you can also customize the app to leap into action when you want it to. Users can activate the Connect Upon Launching the App feature to automatically initiate a connection whenever you start up the client.

Another great feature is split tunneling, which is available on the Android app. Users can decide which apps and websites they want to bypass the VPN connection and tunnel through their Internet Service Provider (ISP). This is a fantastic feature, and the only downside to it is that it isn't available on other platforms.

With unlimited bandwidth and no limits on data transfers, StrongVPN is a great choice for streaming fans. Despite the provider's small server network, it can bypass many geo-restrictions and provide customers access to content across the world, including foreign streaming service libraries.

StrongVPN unblocks many streaming services, including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and more. However, the VPN doesn't unblock BBC iPlayer, which is disappointing.

As well as being a good VPN for streaming, StrongVPN is great for torrenting. The VPN supports P2P networking on its platform, enabling users to safely access torrent platforms. StrongVPN is also a great gaming VPN since it can be configured to routers to protect gaming consoles and gamers from DDoS attacks.

StrongVPN also works well with VoIP apps like Skype. This means you may incur lower charges when making calls via Skype to other countries. It also is a great VPN for social media use. If you work or go to school in an environment with a restricted network, you may not be able to access your favorite social media sites. StrongVPN's ability to bypass firewalls means you can enjoy apps such as Instagram and Facebook regardless of your location.

Although StrongVPN used to offer dedicated IP address options in the past, these are no longer available as they provide users with less anonymity online. Fortunately, StrongVPN has almost 60,000 shared IPs available.

Should you run into any issues with the VPN service, you can take advantage of the 24/7 customer support. This includes a live chat, a support section on the website, and even a telephone number that users can call.

How Do I Use StrongVPN?

If you’re keen to try out StrongVPN’s services, then you first need to sign up for an account with your name, email address, and some other information. Upon sign-up, you’ll create an account login with a password, which you can then use to access the VPN app on other devices.

Once you have downloaded and installed the download the Strong app onto your device of choice, you’ll be prompted to enter your login information, including the password you created when you first signed up for the service.

After opening the app, you’ll find a user-friendly interface that is easy to navigate. Server locations are listed, and you can choose from the list which one you want to connect to or use the Best Available Location feature. If you want to switch servers at any time, you first must disconnect from your current server before connecting to a new one.

To make the most out of the VPN, you can access the settings to change protocols and activate other features like the kill switch. If you’re using the desktop Windows client, then you can get the VPN to automatically start upon switching on your computer.

If you’re a VPN novice, then StrongVPN is a great choice. It not only delivers a stellar performance but makes it incredibly easy for new VPN users to get to grips with the software.

How Much Does StrongVPN Cost?

Let’s be honest – when you’re looking for a VPN, money is a deciding factor. If you want a cheap VPN service, then it may be best to look elsewhere. While creating an account with StrongVPN won’t break the bank, you can find other providers that offer their services for a lot less.

There are two subscription plan options. The first is the 12-month plan, which costs $69.96. At 12 months, this works out to $5.83 per month. Compared to popular providers like NordVPN, which has a yearly plan for just $4.92 per month, StrongVPN is a little more costly.

If signing up for a year seems like too much of a commitment, then you can opt for the monthly plan instead. This will set you back $10 per month, which is expensive but cheaper than many other monthly VPN plans offered by other providers.

It’s worth mentioning that both StrongVPN plans come with 250GB of SugarSync secure storage. SugarSync allows subscribers to sync their files across several devices, protect them with encryption, and remotely remove them. When you consider that this extra feature is included in the VPN price, it makes sense why it costs a little more money than some other VPNs.

If you’re looking for a business VPN, you can also get one with StrongVPN. StrongVPN’s business VPN partner is encrypt.me, and there is a discount for Strong customers who want a business plan.

Does StrongVPN Have a 30-day Money Back Guarantee?

It is standard in the VPN industry to offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. Strong doesn’t stray from this and offers its subscribers a completely risk-free 30-day money-back guarantee.

However, if you purchase a subscription with the App Store provider, any refund you want to claim will be subject to Apple’s refund policies.

What Payment Methods Does StrongVPN Accept?

StrongVPN currently accepts three payment methods. You can pay with a credit card, using PayPal, or with Alipay. There are no cryptocurrency payment options at the moment, but we hope that the provider will add some soon to anonymize payments further.

Is My Browsing Data Really Safe with StrongVPN?

If you’re using StrongVPN’s services, then you want to ensure that your online privacy is protected. Without encrypted VPN protection, your ISP can review what you’re doing online, from which page you visit most frequently to the services you use online. Websites can also gather information about you, such as your IP and the locations from where you visit their page.

If you connect to public wi-fi networks, your social media account information, including your name and email, could be stolen by hackers who silently lurk on public networks.

Thanks to StrongVPN’s advanced encryption and range of secure protocols, including OpenVPN and WireGuard, you can ensure that your browsing data is safe from the prying eyes of others. Since AES-256 encryption is used, it’s highly unlikely that any hackers would be able to get through the encryption and decipher your data.

Moreover, StrongVPN’s strict no-logging policy ensures that the provider itself does not store or share any personal data about you, including your browsing data or your devices’ IPs. We feel that your internet activity will be secure with Strong.

How Many VPN Servers Does StrongVPN Have?

StrongVPN has 950 servers in 39 countries. Although this is by far not the largest server network we’ve seen, 950 is a decent number, especially considering that the VPN operates in 59 locations across the world.

A good number of servers is important for several reasons. Firstly, the more server location options there are on offer, the more likely it is that people will be able to bypass web limitations and access restricted content. Also, more servers equal lower server loads and a higher chance of finding a server close to your physical location that offers faster speeds.

StrongVPN’s number of servers has increased in the past few years, so we are certain that its network will continue to grow.

What Devices Can I Use StrongVPN on?

All of StrongVPN’s subscription plans come with 12 simultaneous connections. Although that’s more than you may need, this generous number ensures that you can offer all of your devices VPN protection. Fortunately, there are many devices that the VPN has dedicated apps for, including:

Upon downloading the app for your devices, you need to login with your user account details, including your email and password. Once you’ve done that, you can immediately begin to enjoy StrongVPN’s services and navigate the web under a secure, encrypted connection. The apps are stylish and extremely easy to use. You can even adjust the mobile apps’ appearance, switching between a light and dark mode option.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to use an app, you can manually set up a VPN connection on many other operating systems, including:

Even though 12 simultaneous connections should cover all of your devices, and perhaps a few of your family member’s too, you can bypass this device limit by configuring the VPN to your router. Setting up a connection on a compatible VPN router automatically protects every device on the network.

On StrongVPN’s help page, you can find help on how to set up the VPN on your router and follow the provider’s instructions. You must have a compatible VPN router, meaning a router with DD-WRT, Tomato, or another compatible firmware. Once you’ve set up a VPN router, you can establish a connection to your gaming consoles or smart TVs.

You can buy a StrongVPN router that comes with the VPN software preloaded onto it. On StrongVPN’s website, there is a list of preloaded router options, from which you can choose if you don’t want to configure a router manually.

Is StrongVPN Fast?

Speed is essential for a VPN. We all know how annoying it can be when we have to endure a slow internet connection. Although VPNs can often slow down connections, many don’t make a noticeable difference to your overall internet speed.

For this StrongVPN review, we ran a couple of speed tests to determine how fast the VPN was. However, we noticed that a few factors affected our connections’ speed. Firstly, the location of the server influence speeds. Depending on our distance from the server, we experienced slower download rates. For example, our base download speed of 29Mbps, decreased to 26Mbps when connected to a server in Japan.

Fortunately, the US servers’ speeds were good and didn’t differ much from surfing the web without a VPN. Overall, StrongVPN’s performance on the speed front was impressive. For a provider with a smaller than average server roster, it wasn’t noticeable at all when it came to the fast connection.

Does StrongVPN Unblock Netflix?

Yes, StrongVPN does unblock Netflix. We could access US Netflix with no issues and even managed to get through to several European Netflix libraries. Netflix isn’t the only streaming service that Strong works with, as it can also unblock Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and Disney+.

Thanks to StrongVPN’s long list of compatible operating systems, you can enjoy watching streaming site content on your computer, mobile phone, or Smart TV. While we were testing out the service on various streaming platforms, we enjoy good speed rates and an overall high-quality performance.

However, StrongVPN’s inability to bypass BBC iPlayer’s VPN firewall is a shame since many rival providers can get users past this. It’s a minor setback for the provider, which otherwise works well on all other streaming platforms.

Is StrongVPN Good for Gaming?

If you’re looking for a VPN for gaming, then StrongVPN’s service is a good option. Firstly, StrongVPN’s use of the WireGuard protocol ensures that gamers enjoy fast speeds and a stable, secure connection.

By using a VPN, gamers can change their IP address and virtual location. This allows them to bypass geo-restrictions and access newly-released gaming content in other regions or purchase games for a fraction of the cost in other countries.

StrongVPN’s ability to make your real IP address is also a benefit since it hides your activity from other gamers or hackers who may want to view your activity. StrongVPN’s advanced encryption also keeps users protected from other gamers who may want to kick you out of a game by carrying out a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. These are common in the gaming world, but VPN software can prevent them.

On StrongVPN’s website, it lists several games that it works well with, including Fortnite, League of Legends, and World of War. That’s an impressive roster of games, and we’d highly recommend avid gamers to use StrongVPN’s service.

Does StrongVPN Have Good Customer Service?

Customer service is an integral part of any VPN, and this StrongVPN review wouldn’t be complete without looking at StrongVPN’s customer support. We were pleasantly surprised by what the provider offers its subscribers in terms of support.

Firstly, there is a live chat on the website. Upon clicking the live chat button, you’ll be connected to a chatbot, who responds with automated replies. However, if you have a more pressing issue that needs attention, you can click the get in touch button and talk to a customer agent.

Alternatively, you can submit a ticket request for email support or even give the customer service team a call. Although it isn’t obvious on the provider’s website, there is a phone number that people can call from 9-5 CT, Monday-Friday.

If you have a less urgent matter, you can access the help page on StrongVPN’s website. Here, there are many setup guides and technical support, as well as FAQS. While the support page seems a little basic and brief at first glance when you click through the different pages, you’ll find a lot of helpful information relating to connection, performance, and speed issues, how to set up the VPN on your router, and more.

How Good is StrongVPN?

For this StrongVPN review, it’s essential to look at every aspect of the VPN provider to determine whether it offers a good service to its users. So, how good is StrongVPN? Based on its privacy and security features alone, we’d say it is a good service.

However, there are a few factors that prevent it from rivaling top VPNs like NordVPN and ExpressVPN. One of these is that it has a server network of fewer than 1000 servers. While this isn’t a massive issue, it limits the amount of content the provider can give people access to since it offers fewer server locations.

How Do I Cancel StrongVPN?

If you’re dissatisfied with StrongVPN’s services, then you can cancel your subscription at any time. If you do this before the end of the first month, then you’ll get a full refund automatically.

To cancel your subscription, you need to log in to your account and access the VPN accounts area before selecting the cancel request form. You then need to select a package to cancel before confirmation appears on your screen.
