RUSVPN is a VPN service that almost seems too good to be true. It has a selection of paid service plans, a free VPN proxy, offers dedicated apps and clients for a host of operating systems, and at first glance, appears to have great security features.

However, is RUSVPN all it claims to be? Beneath the surface of the provider's excellent promises, we found that the VPN has some issues with its Windows client and doesn't offer many additional features.

We put RUSVPN to the test to determine which areas it excels in and where improvements need to be made. If you're looking for a relatively cheap VPN that lacks extra thrills, then RUSVPN is probably a great choice for you. However, if you're looking for something that comes with many useful extra features, we suggest you give this VPN a miss.

RUSVPN Security

70%

VPN providers aim to give their users more privacy online through a wide range of security features. After reviewing many VPN services at VPNSurfers, we have a strict set of security criteria that VPNs should meet to be considered secure.

Firstly, let's take a look at RUSVPN's encryption standards. The provider uses AES-256 encryption with RSA-2048 bit keys to ensure that your web traffic is not seen by any third parties, including your Internet Service Provider (ISP), hackers, or websites. This is great since militaries and governments use AES-256 encryption, so snoopers won't be easily able to decrypt your traffic when this protects it.

You can decide how secure your VPN connection is since RUSVPN offers various protocols, including the OpenVPN protocol. You can also choose to tunnel your traffic using L2TP, IKEv2, or PPTP, depending on whether speed or security is more important to you.

RUSVPN has an automatic kill switch feature that will kick in when your connection to the VPN server falters. The kill switch will cease all internet access, which means that none of your internet traffic will be leaked.

You can avoid DNS and WebRTC leaks with RUSVPN. RUS uses its own private DNS servers so that your requests can go through these and not your ISP. This means that your online actions will be more private and is an advanced security feature.

So, what about logging? The provider's official website states, "we do not keep logs of any kind." RUSVPN doesn't collect data on its VPN servers and only stores essential information like your email address and account password.

We checked out the privacy policy to check whether RUSVPN collects any connection data when customers are using the service. The provider again claims that it runs a "non-permanent connection log service." This service is necessary to solve technical problems, including internal IP address assignment and random name generation. Browsing data is never monitored, and your public IP address will never be permanently stored on the network.

Overall the security features with RUSVPN are good. There is a choice for tunneling protocols, allowing users some control over their connection's encryption level and great extra tools like a kill switch.

RUSVPN Features

A VPN provider that comes with a host of additional features is worth its weight in gold. A glance at the RUSVPN website, you'd be inclined to think that the provider comes with an assortment of useful tools. However, on closer inspection, it doesn't live up to the standards set by some of its competitors in the VPN industry.

Let's start with what the VPN does well. RUSVPN provides desktop clients and mobile apps for many devices, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Linux. You can also configure the VPN to your router, providing that it has compatible firmware such as Asus, D-link, or DD-WRT. You can also download OpenVPN configuration files for your OpenVPN client.

If you want to try out the VPN before purchasing a plan, you can use RUSVPN's free proxy. The free proxy comes in the form of a browser extension and can be downloaded from the provider's website or the Google Chrome store. The proxy might be a better choice for users who only want the VPN for light tasks and to encrypt their in-browser activity.

An excellent advantage that RUSVPN has over other providers is that it offers unlimited simultaneous connections. Like Surfshark, RUS doesn't put a cap on how many devices you can use the service on at any time, which is great news. This means you can share your subscription with friends, family, and even coworkers.

RUSVPN claims to be able to unblock popular streaming services like Netflix. While the provider was able to provide us access to YouTube videos in different regions, it failed on several occasions to bypass the Netflix VPN firewall. The only time we successfully accessed Netflix while using the VPN was when we connected to a US server. Connecting to an Australian server to access Netflix in that region failed.

Speaking of servers, the RUSVPN server network is fairly small. There are just over 390 servers in 50 countries. Some of the notable server locations include New York, London, Berlin, Toronto, and Tokyo. The decent global coverage means that you can switch your real IP address and choose IP addresses in many other countries, bypassing geo-restrictions to access foreign websites more easily.

RUSVPN supports torrenting on its network, something that not all providers allow. Moreover, since RUSVPN provides extra features like a kill switch and auto-connection, you can rest assured that your torrenting activity is always private and never linked to your real IP.

So, where does RUSVPN fall short of its extra features promises? There is no split tunneling feature, which is a disappointment since this is something that many VPN users like as it allows them to personalize their VPN use. Moreover, there is no double encryption feature that providers such as NordVPN and Surfshark offer.

We'd definitely recommend RUS if you want to encrypt your data and access more websites online in more countries worldwide. However, if you want a VPN for watching Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, and other popular streaming services, this VPN might not be the best choice.

What is RUSVPN?

You may not have heard of RUSVPN before since it doesn’t have the same reputation as VPN legends like NordVPN. However, RUSVPN is a top-rated VPN, with over 300,000 people using its proxy VPN alone.

Iron Media Group Ltd owns RUSVPN, and the company is located in The Commonwealth of Dominica. This is good news for users since the provider’s jurisdiction falls outside of the 5/9/14 Eyes, meaning that the government does not internationally share data with other countries.

Moreover, The Commonwealth of Dominica does not have strict data retention laws, and the Protection of Personal Data Act came into force several years ago in the region. This makes it a superb choice for a VPN company’s headquarters. Much like Surfshark, ExpressVPN, and NordVPN, RUSVPN can better guarantee its users’ privacy thanks to its jurisdiction.

How Much Does RUSVPN Cost?

RUSVPN offers several paid subscription plans, and the longer you sign up for, the better deal you get. We always recommend signing up for a month at first to see if you actually like the VPN before switching to a longer-term plan.

Here’s how much RUSVPN costs:

If you’re a student, then you’re in luck! By signing up for the 3-year plan, you’ll enjoy a 20% discount on some of the provider’s affiliate websites. While this isn’t a huge selling point, it is definitely a bonus if you opt for the longest plan.

There is a 30-day money-back guarantee on all paid plans, giving you time to see how RUSVPN performs. However, there is a catch to the refund policy. Only users who have consumed less than 500GB will be entitled to a full refund in the first 30 days. If you exceed this data limit, you won’t be able to claim your cashback on the 30-day money-back guarantee.

Does RUSVPN Accept Cryptocurrency Payments?

RUSVPN accepts a few payment methods, including Bitcoin. Bitcoin is great for users who want to anonymize their purchases and keep their VPN use private.

If you’re not a fan of cryptocurrencies, then you can pay using Visa, Mastercard, or WebMoney.

Does RUSVPN Log VPN Usage?

Is RUSVPN safe? The provider claims that your browsing behavior won’t be monitored or exposed on its server network since the provider is 100% no-logs. Session information such as connection timestamps will also remain private to you only, and your real IP will never be logged.

Although RUSVPN goes into detail regarding its no-logs policy, it has not been independently audited, so we cannot, with complete certainty, verify its claims.

It’s important to note that if you visit the RUSVPN website, some information is recorded for Google Analytics. This includes the site you visited before RUSVPN’s website, the operating system you use, and your browser language. While this is fairly normal, some people dislike the use of Google Analytics cookies, and so it is crucial to keep this in mind when using the service.

Does RUSVPN Have a Free Version?

RUSVPN does provide a free proxy VPN that comes in the form of Chrome, Mozilla, and Firefox browser extensions. This is highly rated by customers, and the proxy has almost a 5-star rating on the Chrome Web Store.

How Do You Use RUSVPN?

RUSVPN is fairly easy to use. Firstly, you need to install RUSVPN onto your device of choice. Then, to run RUSVPN, you need to open up the client on your system, be it the Android app or Windows client. It is worth mentioning that we experienced a few issues when using the Windows client, and it crashed on a couple of occasions. The kill switch also failed to spring into action on the Windows client.

Once you have launched the client or app, you can select a server you wish to connect to and start browsing under an IP address from that country. You can also activate certain features on the app to automatically connect to the VPN whenever you are connected to the internet.

The RUSVPN app has an easy user interface, with a dark blue design and an easy-to-navigate server list. It is a great VPN for novices, who may have never used a VPN before, and its simplistic design adds to the overall positive user experience.

How Fast is RUSVPN?

VPNs can slow down your internet connection, but RUSVPN claims to provide high-speed servers. We ran some speed tests to verify the provider’s claims.

We started with a baseline download speed of 40Mbps. Upon connecting to a US server, our download connection speed dropped to 34Mbps, while our upload speed was 22Mbps. This was a decent speed and provided a stable connection.

We accessed YouTube connected to this server and enjoy decent video quality with no buffering. Overall, RUSVPN isn’t the fastest VPN, but it provided a good internet speed for us.

Is RUSVPN a User-Friendly VPN Service?

We believe that RUSVPN is a user-friendly VPN. Although, when we visited the website, we were met with a constant pop-up that advertised the provider’s sale on its service, this was the only issue we found. The site was easy to navigate, and there was ample information about the VPN service.

Moreover, as mentioned earlier, the VPN app is well-designed and easy to use. RUSVPN removes many choices for users and provides dedicated apps and browser extensions to make each customer’s VPN experience far easier.

Does RUSVPN Offer Customer Support?

Yes, RUSVPN does have customer support on its site. Users can get in touch with the customer support team via a ticketed email system and leave details of their problems with the VPN there.

Unfortunately, RUSVPN doesn’t offer live chat support on its website, and there isn’t a comprehensive help section on the website full of information. It would be great to see the provider improve its customer support in these two areas.

IS RUSVPN Worth it?

So, what is our verdict? RUSVPN is overall a good VPN, and we would recommend it to users. Although it doesn’t offer as many servers as some other providers and might not fulfill the needs of users who want a technical experience, it is a user-friendly service that comes at reasonable prices.

What Are Some RUSVPN Alternatives?

There are many other great providers that you can consider if you are not fully satisfied with what RUSVPN has to offer. One notable VPN provider is Private Internet Access (PIA). PIA is particularly great for users who enjoy torrenting and want to enjoy a fast internet connection.

We also recommend NordVPN and Surfshark. These providers have larger server networks and offer more features that may be of use to customers.
